You can easily teach a class on the CALM Dialogue. Here’s what you need to get started:
1. Carve out a 2-hour time slot to schedule a class. The class takes 2 hours because there is class participation involved.
2. Figure out how many copies of the book you will need. The book is only 40 pages and contains work pages. Therefore, each student should get their own copy.
3. Order books (see link below).
4. Review the curriculum and lesson plan outlined below. The lesson plan provides a step-by-step guide to teaching the class. All you have to do is follow along.
5. Familiarize yourself with the book.

Course Description:
This course covers a variety of factors and situations that are commonly encountered when dealing with workplace conflict. The course material will also cover how to resolve conflict utilizing the CALM Dialogue process. Real world workplace dispute scenarios will be explored within the framework of the CALM Dialogue construct.
Course Objectives:
The objectives of the course are to:

Time needed to teach the class: 2 Hours
Lesson Plan:
1. Warm-up Activity
Introduce yourself. Then ask the class to raise their hands if they have experienced conflict at work. This should get the class participation going and get everyone’s attention.
2. Teaching Concepts
Have everyone follow along as you go over chapters 1 and 2.
3. Class Participation
Chapter 3 goes over the 2-minute deep breathing exercise. Read it over with everyone and then have everyone participate in the exercise.
4. The CALM Dialogue
Chapter 4 delves in to the CALM Dialogue. Have the class follow along as you read over the steps. If there are any questions, you can address them at the end of the chapter.
5. Take a 10-Minute Break
6. Workplace Conflict Scenarios
Chapter 5 outlines 7 model workplace scenarios. Have students role-play the scenarios. At the beginning of each a new scenario ask for volunteers to play the various characters. Remember to discuss the goal at the end of each scenario. Make it fun and memorable!
7. Team Work
Have the class separate in to teams. Each team will be responsible for creating 1 practice scenario using the blank scenario pages in chapter 5.
8. Discussion
Have the teams take turns role-playing their scenarios out loud. Make sure each scenario begins with a brief description and ends with the goal each team wished to accomplish.
9. Review
This would be a good time to review the CALM Dialogue’s 4 steps.
10. Wrap it up
Read Chapter 6 out loud.
This will complete the class.
